Using Essential Oils With Dogs
Welcome to my blog!
“Long before symptoms become apparent, your dog will be aware of what is needed to restore itself to health” - Caroline Ingraham
As pet owners, we always strive to provide the best care and support for our furry friends. Just like humans, dogs can benefit from the healing properties of essential oils. By understanding the power of essential oils and their safe application, you can enhance your dog's health and well-being naturally.
A few years ago I had the privilege of attending 2 courses with Caroline Ingraham at her home in the UK.
Those days were fascinating, and heart-breaking in equal measure. The doggy “patients” I encountered included a rescue dog from Greece who was recovering from gunshot wounds and a dog who was grieving for her departed sibling.
Watching Caroline work with the dogs & seeing their reactions to the essential oils she offered them absolutely blew me away.
Since then, I’ve been using essential oils with my own dog, Roscoe, and whenever I’ve done it while friends are present they’ve had the same “mind-blown” reaction to what they see.
Understanding Applied Zoopharmacognosy
Caroline is the founder of Applied Zoopharmacognosy.
The practice revolves around the principle that animals are instinctively drawn to certain plants and natural substances that aid their healing.
When given the chance, animals exhibit a remarkable capacity to make healing choices for themselves.
Empowering Your Dog's Healing Journey
A very simple explanation of how a session works is as follows…. the dog is offered a selection of oils which have been grouped into categories defined by their therapeutic properties.
The dog indicates which oil it wants by displaying behaviours such as yawning, lip smacking, changes in breathing and excessive blinking.
They relax, lay down and "process" the oil. They may move their head closer or further away to adjust the strength of their "dose", then when they’ve had the dose they require they fall asleep and carry on processing.
It really is one of the most heart-warming, amazing things to watch.
The Language of Smell: A Unique Connection
In this practice, the communication between you and your dog transcends verbal cues and gestures. It's about understanding the language of smell—the ancient, instinctual way animals interact with their environment. By embracing this common language, you embark on a profound journey of connection and mutual understanding.
The Holistic Path To Wellness
Whilst I believe that conventional medicine is essential in pet care, by embracing Applied Zoopharmacognosy, you embrace the wisdom of nature and the innate intelligence of your dog. It's a gentle, respectful approach that honours your pet's ability to participate in their own healing process.
