✨ How I Left My 9-5 & Built My Holistic Business (5 Key Actions!)

Leaving the corporate world to start your own healing or holistic business is a big, life-changing step. I know because I’ve been there. I always say it's the hardest but best thing I've ever done. The journey isn’t always easy, but there are things that helped me transition, and I want to share them with you. If you’re feeling stuck in your 9-5 but dream of running your own spiritual or healing business, these five steps can help you take the leap with clarity and confidence.
1. Loving Where I Was at—Even When I Didn’t Like It
I knew deep down that having corporate job wasn’t for me, one of the (many) things I really disliked was having to ask for annual leave a year in advance and then being told no because somebody else was off at that time! I just wasn't cut out for the corporate world. I had done what I 'thought' you were supposed to do - work like mad to climb the corporate ladder but it was destroying me and I felt so deeply unfulfilled and unhappy. But instead of resenting it, I decided to shift my energy. I began sending love to everyone and everything around me—yes, even the things I disliked. I sent love to the hotel I stayed in five days a week, the long train rides and flights from up north down to Crawley, the office, the stairs, the lift, the people on the bus, the receptionists, my colleagues (even the ones who weren’t the nicest), and my delegates. Gratitude and love shifted my energy, and in doing so, it shifted my experience. Even on Monday mornings, when the thought of heading into the office filled me with fear and dread, weighing heavy in the pit of my stomach, I still chose to send love to everything around me
2. Affirmations Every Morning
Before heading to work, I made it a practice to write out ten affirmations of things I was grateful for that day. Even though stepping into that office made me feel sick to my stomach, I consciously chose to send love to it all and embed that with affirmations. This practice helped me cultivate gratitude despite my circumstances and made each day a little more bearable while I worked toward my transition. I would start with "I am truly grateful for.... and then add 'because' I did it every morning and it helped me to feel better about where I was and that actually my job was helping me to pay for the training courses I was taking and was a stepping stone to my next adventure. Looking back that job was the best things that ever happened to me as it pushed me over the edge enough to say 'enough' I can't do this anymore.
3. Reiki Changed Everything
II had never experienced Reiki before, but one of my colleagues was a Reiki Master, and we got chatting about it. This was definitely divinely times as I had worked with her for nearly two years and I never knew she was a reiki master! She lent me some books, and something inside me just knew—I had to try it. I booked a reiki session and then booked more as I felt so clear and more confident afterwards. One particular distant Reiki session completely changed me. The very next morning, I woke up with absolute clarity about what I needed to do. That same week, I handed in my notice. Reiki was my divine nudge, giving me the courage and clarity to take action. I loved it so much I decided to train to be a reiki practitioner as it had such a profound effect on me
4. Getting Good at My New Craft
Before I officially left my corporate job, I immersed myself in my new path. I practiced making soap relentlessly, perfecting my craft, and deepening my skills. At the same time, I was offering Reiki to anyone who would let me practice. I knew that when I did leave, I wanted to feel confident in my abilities, so I put in the time and effort to master my work. I practiced on anyone who would have reiki with me, I build my confidence as that when I did have paying clients it felt natural and I felt confident at my craft.
5. Taking Action Toward Leaving My 9-5
While still employed, I started exploring ways to gradually transition out of my corporate job. I asked my supervisor if I could reduce my hours (the answer was no, but it all worked out in the end—that’s a story for another blog!). I also began searching for part-time work that would give me more time to focus on my business. Even small steps created momentum and helped me build the bridge from my 9-5 to my dream business. Initially I wasn't taking any action. I was doing all the talk - I had a plan to reduce my hours or get a part time job but not doing anything about it. I had a session with a coach who asked me if I had been looking for a part time job - my answer was no! He sent me this quote
"If you want to discover new oceans, you must first have the courage to leave the shore"
I knew then that to move away from the world I was in now, I had to let go and start taking some action to move away from it.
If you’re feeling the pull to leave your corporate job and step into your healing or holistic business, know that it’s possible. You don’t have to do it overnight, but by shifting your mindset, deepening your skills, and taking inspired action, you’ll be well on your way to making your dream a reality.
