3 Reasons we all need a like-minded community

Three Reasons Why We All Need a Like-Minded Community

I used to believe I could do it all alone. That running a business meant hustling away in solitude, figuring things out on my own, and trying (often failing) to push through the doubts without anyone to share them with. I thought networking events weren’t for me—too big, too loud, too “sell yourself in 60 seconds.”

But here’s what I’ve learned: we aren’t meant to do this alone.

Finding my tribe—women who get it, who understand what it means to be a creative or wellbeing entrepreneur—has changed everything. And not just for me, but for the women who turn up to my Netwalks. Because there’s something about walking side by side, breathing in fresh air, and sharing where you’re at in a way that feels real and unforced, that creates genuine connection.

So, why is being part of a like-minded community so powerful? Here’s what I’ve realised:

1. It Stops You Feeling Like the Odd One Out

When you run a business that doesn’t fit the traditional mould—maybe you’re an artist, a coach, a holistic practitioner—it can feel like you’re constantly explaining yourself to people who don’t quite get it.

  • “Wait… so you work for yourself?”

  • “But how do you actually make money?”

  • “Is that a real job?”

Finding a community of people on a similar path means you’re suddenly not the odd one out anymore. You’re surrounded by others who understand the highs, the wobbles, and the sheer magic of doing what you love. It’s like an exhale—you don’t have to explain yourself, because they already know.

2. You Gain Confidence in Your Work (and Yourself!)

There’s something about hearing the words “I’ve been there” from someone who’s actually been there that makes all the difference. A supportive community lifts you up when you’re doubting yourself, gives you perspective when you’re stuck in your own head, and reminds you why you started in the first place.

The women who come on the Netwalks often arrive feeling unsure—about their next steps, about whether their business is “good enough,” about whether they’re even on the right path. But by the end of the walk? They’ve been seen. They’ve been heard. They’ve had conversations that spark ideas, collaborations, and most importantly—belief in themselves.

Because when you surround yourself with people who believe in you, it makes it that much easier to believe in yourself too.

3. It Opens Doors You Didn’t Even Know Were There

Something magical happens when you find your people—opportunities start showing up that you never could have planned for.

The collaborations, the referrals, the “I know someone you should meet” moments. The ideas that come when you’re just chatting over coffee after a walk, and suddenly, the thing that felt impossible now feels completely doable.

Community doesn’t just support you—it expands your world in ways you never expected.

The Power of Walking Side by Side

The reason Netwalking has become such a core part of my business (and my life) is because it removes all the usual networking pressures. No awkward icebreakers, no forced small talk—just walking, talking, and connecting in a way that feels natural.

And honestly? It’s a game-changer.

Because when you’re surrounded by a like-minded community, you grow faster, feel braver, and find your place in the world with more ease.

If you’ve been feeling isolated in your business, I encourage you to find your people—whether that’s through a local group, an online space, or (of course) coming along to a Netwalk. Because you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.

And trust me—everything gets easier when you don’t.
