I'm Jacque
(Pronounced Jack-ee)
I’m a literacy coach for moms!
I’ve spent 16 years teaching elementary aged children in a variety of settings, but my favorite is teaching kindergarten. As a child, I struggled learning to read and I dedicated my life to figuring out the best ways to teach reading/writing so children don’t have to struggle like I did.
After getting my bachelor's degree in elementary education, I went on to study the Montessori Philosophy (and it changed my life). Montessori introduced me to Orton-Gillingham, which I also got trained in (again, life changing reading philosophy…woah). I guess I wasn’t done learning and got my master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
I put all of these pieces together to give the best instruction to my students and created some really cool reading systems for them to work through. I started seeing children not just meet expectations, but surpass them. I was worried that maybe it was just a lucky year. NOPE! It continued to happen year after year.
This was the goal I had set out to accomplish! To give children the reading instruction I wished I had gotten. Children were successful. I had figured it out! Now, I could just rinse and repeat until I retired…right? Well….
I started having a feeling that I needed to do more. It was great that 20+ kids could get this instruction every year, but what if I could help even more children? It took me over 10 years to figure it out. I know many people have children that need help right now! You don’t have time to “figure it out.”
So, I created Empowering Literacy to help moms. Why moms? Because no one loves your child or will fight harder for them than you! I want to help people who want help the most.

I help moms who are teaching beginning readers and writers through personalized coaching sessions.
Coaching sessions provide you with confidence, a step-by-step plan, and educational guidance as you teach your children to read and write.

Each session is based on your child’s unique needs. I’ve helped moms who are brand new to teaching to moms who have successfully homeschooled multiple children and are stumped by new challenges.

Some fun facts about me...
My perfect day is described as "moseying" around. I love leisurely wandering and seeing where the day takes me, what I'll do, and who I'll meet.
I love going to garage sales and thrift stores. I buy almost nothing brand new and love finding ways to give new life to old things.
I would be considered "crunchy/granola." I didn't even know those terms were a thing. I try to prioritize my heath and wellness. I love my sauna and beef tallow along with many other "weird" things.
I love to travel and see new places and meet new people. I am trying to prioritize "experiences" in my life over "things."
I recently took up playing pickleball and I play in a league with people who are much better and have been playing much longer than me. It's been good practice to keep showing up even though I lose most of my games. Even when I lose, I still have fun!
I am a Christian and I believe the Lord laid Empowering Literacy on my heart as a mission for him. I want reading and writing to be accessible for all regardless of religious beliefs so (for now) my materials have no religious affiliation.
