HELLO!

I'm Jacque

And I'm passionate about making learning to read and write accessible for every child.

I believe every child deserves the opportunity to feel confident and capable when learning to read and write. This belief has guided my entire career and inspired me to create Empowering Literacy a place where parents, educators, and care givers can find the tools and knowledge to help children thrive.

I received my bachelors degree in elementary education and my masters degree in curriculum and instruction, which deepened my understanding of how children learn the best. Over the past 16 years, I've had the privilege of teaching children from all different backgrounds. Along the way I trained in Montessori Education and the Orton-Gillingham approach, which follows the principles of structured literacy - the way the brain actually learns to read. This approach supports all learners, including those with dyslexia and other learning differences, and I've seen first hand-how it can completely transform a child's confidence.

Now my mission is to empower parents, adults, and educators with the tools and knowledge they need to help children succeed. Learning to read and write isn't a mystery, but it does require the right kind of instruction - and I'm here to help you with that.

The Story Behind Empowering Literacy

As a child, learning to read was a struggle for me.

I often felt lost and frustrated. School wasn't a place I enjoyed. But those early frustrations planted a seed in me.

In the classroom, I worked hard to create lessons that helped children feel successful. I discovered that when students experienced success, they started to enjoy learning, and their confidence grew. Over time, I refined my instruction, and soon my students were thriving. Watching their progress filled me with joy, but also stirred something deeper inside me.

I began to feel a calling to do more. I realized that my own struggles with learning to read gave me a unique perspective and a purpose. I want to share what works, to help other teachers, parents, and children experience the same transformation.

That's how Empowering Literacy was born - from a desire to take something that once felt so difficult and turn into something beautiful and inspiring for others.

Some fun facts about me...

My perfect day is described as "moseying" around. I love leisurely wandering and seeing where the day takes me, what I'll do, and who I'll meet.

I love going to garage sales and thrift stores. I buy almost nothing brand new and love finding ways to give new life to old things.

I would be considered "crunchy/granola." I didn't even know those terms were a thing. I try to prioritize my heath and wellness. I love my sauna and beef tallow along with many other "weird" things.

I love to travel and see new places and meet new people. I am trying to prioritize "experiences" in my life over "things."

I recently took up playing pickleball and I play in a league with people who are much better and have been playing much longer than me. It's been good practice to keep showing up even though I lose most of my games. Even when I lose, I still have fun!

I am a Christian and I believe the Lord laid Empowering Literacy on my heart as a mission for him. I want reading and writing to be accessible for all regardless of religious beliefs so (for now) my materials have no religious affiliation.
